Closing Up Shop

It is with a heavy heart that I make known that The Welcome Home is no more.

For the past 4 years we have labored to make this project the best of what we had to offer as musicians. The Welcome Home was the mixture of 3 very strong personalities, each with our own stark neuroses that shaped both our sound and direction for better or worse. We said it was a business and treated it like a vacation, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

That’s not to say that it wasn’t tough, we always meant to make this our full-time job but in all honesty we went about it a bit too casually. We were naive, cocky, and we knew it. The last 4 years has brought so much individual growth, yet we overtaxed ourselves in an attempt to make the band work the same as it did when we were 19. It put a strain in our friendships, and we began to feel bitter and bored.

So it’s best we all move on to better things, I feel it’s safe to assume we will all continue to make music whether it be solo or in other groups, please continue to follow us on facebook or twitter for updates on our new endeavors.

A huge thanks to our friends and family who have supported us regardless, DPG for running merch on tour, Ashton McKenzie for documenting parts of our journey and helping me out tremendously, Dallas’ mom, Cyndee, for giving us a place to hone our craft in the early days of the band, Jeff Trevorrow, JJ Hamilton, Kat Johnson, David Mills, and Layne Jeffrey for contributing their time and talent as 4th/5th members, Brandon Metcalf, Carson Heffner for kicking ass producing Against A Great Machine, Jesus and all the guys at Evergreen Noise, all of the bands who we’ve shared the stage with.

The biggest thanks goes to Stephen Lloyd, who often fought harder than us to keep the band and our dream afloat, and anyone who gave a damn about our little band at any time.

If you’d like any of our music that you perhaps lost or just never got, email us at thewelcomehomemusic@gmail.com and I can direct you to a mediafire link that I havent set up yet haha.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and much much love.

Hey guys check this out! We were put on Evergreen Noise’s Summer 2011 Sampler. You can stream our song Playing Melancholy along with singles from 14 other artists!

Why do pop culture fans stop caring about new music?

A question that is very relevant these days. I tend to side with Noel Murray but both writers make affective points. What do you all think?

when are you guys going to visit Olympia again? I still have my copy of the Dictionary Tree EP and I still listen to it when the time comes for such music, are you guys working on any new music?

We don’t currently have any Olympia shows booked but we’re hoping to set something up very soon, we miss our hometown. [You can keep updated about our shows on our facebook page] So glad to hear you are still listening to the Dictionary Tree EP! We just released a new EP, Against a Great Machine, and it’s available to purchase or stream on Bandcamp. And Gabe is currently working some new material that we hope to have released as singles over the summer.

Here’s a bunch of the shots Red took for us, enjoy!

Dudes! It's Kevin from Olympia, super bummed I booked and have to run a show the same night as the Dilla Factory show on the 22nd or else I'd be there. Hope all is well in camp, hopefully my new band will play with you cats one of these days.
stay classy, baby boys.

Ah, bummer dude! We would have loved to see you at the show. Good luck with your show and yes, let’s set something up soon!

I'm really enjoying the new songs! What is your favorite one from the new record?

First off, thanks so much and you are awesome! :D
Trying not to elaborate too much, I’ve come up a theory that the writing process for every album (at least for me) starts with the completion of one SOLID song, a song that will help dictate what direction the record will take musically.
For this record that song was Patron Saint, the 2nd track. Lyrically it means a lot to me as it’s written for my mom and little brother about us really being thankful that she worked her butt off doing her best to provide for us and raise us right despite all life’s obstacles. Musically, I think it’s the most lush and complex which is my favorite way to write (you’ll notice there are no acoustic songs on the record, not as fun :P).
